Dental Associates Encourages Blood Donations during American Red Cross Missing Types Campaign
June 20, 2018
Dental Associates is proud to partner with the American Red Cross for their “Missing Types” campaign to raise awareness of the tremendous need for new blood donors.
Through July 3, Dental Associates and other companies, organizations and celebrities are removing the letters A, B and O – the main blood groups – from logos and messaging to represent the critical role blood donations play in patient care. Many people do not realize how important blood donations are until they are missing from hospital shelves and a patient needs them.
“As a health care organization, we recognize the tremendous need for both returning and new blood donors,” says Dr. Donald Gundlach, Director of Professional Development at Dental Associates. “Many people rely on blood donations due to a traumatic event or chronic illness, and we’re proud to help raise awareness for the cause.”
Dr. Gundlach is a member of the Army Reserves with a rank of Colonel. He volunteered to be mobilized from the Reserve to Active Duty three times, including one Mission to Afghanistan, and has seen firsthand the need for blood donations in many situations.
According to the Red Cross, someone needs blood every two seconds. However, over the past four years, the number of new donors in the U.S. has decreased by 80,000 each year.
